What made you choose grad school?
“I was always one of those kids who really just loved school, I felt like that was pretty much the thing that I was really good at, and also the thing that I really enjoyed the most. So when I figured out that this is something that I could do with my life, I was like that's what I'm gonna do. I was always really attracted to the idea of teaching in some capacity. I thought I might end up as a high school or middle school teacher, so this was a natural, natural development.”
What impact did going to UT have on you?
“I look very fondly back at my time at UT. I'm from Austin… (so) initially growing up, I didn't really think I was gonna go to UT because it was just kind of the place in the backyard. But when I got there, it was a magical wonderful place. I think of UT as this place where I found the subject that I really loved and that evidently is going to be the rest of my life. And also the place where I just like had a great time with my friends. I think of it as like the beginning for a crucial place in my intellectual life.”
Did you feel like UT prepared you for grad school?
“ I feel like I got a great preparation for grad school from UT…There really are, you know, extraordinary professors at our university and I feel like I learned so much from them. The classes I took really prepared me to be in graduate school, they prepared me to be in really discussion heavy seminars and to write serious papers.”
